Piercing Your Penis: An Informational Guide
By Lucy Jacobs
Have you ever thought about piercing your best friend? Penis piercings are on the rise among young men who like them for aesthetic and pleasurable reasons. While they might make sex feel even better, they also might make you scream in pain, leaving you with a bleeding, swollen and infected cock. Still interested? Read on to learn about the various types of piercings, as well as the side effects and benefits of piercing your dick.
Dydoe
The dydoe is a piercing that goes right through the sides of the head of your penis, or the rigged edge of the glans. This piercing is preferred by men who have been circumcised, and in this case, size does matter. The edge of the head of the penis must be large enough for a needle to go through and for the jewelry to stay in place. Rumor has it that this piercing is done to increase sensitivity lost through circumcision. Play safe, however, as rough sex can cause some tearing.
The Prince Albert
This little gem is located at the tip of your penis and extends through the urethra. This is one of the most popular penis piercings, with an estimated healing time of about 4-8 weeks, depending on you, how clean you keep it, and if you are capable of not masturbating all the time, allowing it to heal. Men typically choose this piercing because it looks good (if steel rings through your dick turns you on) and it feels good when the ring moves through the urethra.
The Ampallang
One of the least popular and more difficult penis piercings, the Ampallang is inserted horizontally through the head of the penis. It is sometimes done above, under or through the urethra. The most important part of this piercing is to have it done correctly and straight, due to various important nerves and arteries. Also, getting an Ampallang is a slower process than the ole’ Prince Albert. The needle has to be fed in slowly, causing severe discomfort.
The Apadravya
This piercing is actually mentioned in the Kama Sutra, and is very similar to the Ampallang, except that it is a vertical piercing through the head of the penis. According to the Kama Sutra, this piercing can bring both physical and visual arousal. Having said that, the position of the needle in this one is crucial because a misplaced needle could cause a lot of bleeding. Once again, it’s quite painful and can be placed in or around the urethra.
Foreskin piercing
For the uncircumcised man only, the foreskin piercing is used for sexual enhancement. A fairly straight forward procedure, the piercing doesn’t suffer from too many complications. However, rough sex can cause damage to the tissue and tearing.
The Frenum
The second most popular piercing, after the Prince Albert, is the Frenum. This is the skin located on the underside of the penis shaft. The piercing is usually near the top of the shaft by the head of the penis, or can be down near the scrotum. This piercing is called the lorum. There’s also the ladder, which is a series of piercings along the entire shaft.
The Perineum
Also known as the Guiche, this piercing is located in dark netherworld of the scrotal sac near the anus. Obviously a less popular piercing because of the location and the associated trouble with keeping it clean and free of infection, the Guiche is a difficult piercing to maintain. It’s a surface piercing in an area of the body that doesn’t see much sunlight and therefore is typically moist, warm and poorly ventilated. This is not recommended for men who ride bicycles or have to sit a lot.
The Hafada
The Hafada, also known as the scrotum piercing, can be both good and bad. The thinness of scrotum skin is a benefit, because it means that the scrotum can be pierced pretty much anywhere and is relatively painless compared to some of the other piercings. However, the location can be irritating, thus making healing difficult. This piercing suffers from the same problems as the perineum piercing; they’re both poorly ventilated areas with natural perspiration. And of course you don’t want the piercing to go too deep, as it could penetrate the sac, a definite no no. While this piercing doesn’t really improve sex physically, many men find it visually attractive, thereby turning them on.
Piercings and Sex
Depending on the piercing you decide on, you might have to discover new ways to masturbate and have sex. Some of the piercings require you to be a little careful and not engage in really rough sex for fear of tearing something. Until the skin around the piercing starts to toughen up a little and get used to the foreign object you’ve inserted into it, you’ll have to be gentle and patient.
A lot of men want to know whether their partners will get anything out of the piercing. Many women are said to experience enhanced pleasure as a result of the piercing, particularly with the Prince Albert and the Ampallang. After all, there’s a piece of metal in your dick. When you stick it in someone, they are bound to notice something.
Thankfully, penis piercings really don’t interfere with the use of condoms, something you should take extra care to use during the first months after your piercing. If your partner feels discomfort with the piercing, you might want to downsize the dimensions or style of your jewelry. Discomfort to you, the one with the piercing, can often be solved with lubricant on the piercing. In terms of oral sex, the piercings have, on occasion, been known to chip teeth. So play safe!
